The Village on Skidaway Island
The Village on Skidaway Island in Georgia is an area where residents of Skidaway Island and surrounding areas can go to buy necessities and other valuable items. The village is a group of businesses including supermarkets, restaurants, banks, a gas station, wealth management companies, dental offices, hair salons, and miscellaneous shops for cards and other small items. When first arriving on the island, you should travel about one mile on Georgia Route 204 and pass Skidaway Island State Park Road. At the first stop light, turn left. You will see a sign that displays 'The Village on Skidaway Island'. You have arrived. There will be a BP gas station to your right and further ahead, you will encounter the Smith Brothers supermarket, Bank of America, Wachovia, numerous small private banks, and Meryl Lynch wealth management franchise. All of these together form The Village on Skidaway Island. The Village is the only on-island area where residents and visitors can buy gas, manage finances, and receive various merchandise.
The Village is owned by the Lewis Broadcasting Company, more specifically Julius Curis Lewis III. Mr. Lewis also owns the J.C. Lewis Ford motor dealership and has owned the local television station, WJCL-DT/TV and its sister station FOX28-DT/TV. The property has been valued at more than three million dollars and current renting fees are extremely high. This village of stores is the only one on Skidaway Island, providing food, gas, dental, and miscellaneous services on-site. It is the most convenient place to find services that are needed. Among them is the Village Golf Cart Shop that is privately owned by an island homeowner.
