Early Warning Doppler HD

Brought to you by:
The Skidaway Island Weather Center

The Skidaway Island Weather Center's Pinpoint Doppler Radar HD provides live and rapidly-updating Doppler radar imagery during and throughout weather events for different geographical areas of the United States. All the different products provided via the Early Warning Doppler HD platform (e.g. base reflectivity, base velocity, vertically integrated liquid, spectrum width) are obtained through publically available Next Generation Weather Radar, or NEXRAD, from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's National Weather Service. In addition to radar data interpolation, the radar graphic display software allows the integration of various different data including, but not limited to, surface weather observations, local storm reports, and lightning from North American Precision Lightning Network (NAPLN).

Current Reflectivity Loop
Base Reflectivity
Composite Reflectivity

Composite Reflectivity is a product which shows the maximum dbZ value over all atmospheric tilt samples on the NEXRAD data.

Vertically Integrated Liquid

Vertically Integrated Liquid, or VIL, shows how much liquid in contained within a shower or thunderstorm, typically measured in kilograms per square meter.

Digital Storm Total Precipitation

Digital Storm Total Precipitation (DSTP) is a measure of a possible precipitation total over a predetermined amount of time. Precipitation estimates should not be used as the most reliable source of precipitation totals as they tend to over and underestimate. This is a new digital product that replaces the old Storm Total Precipitation product.

One Hour Rain Total

One Hour Precipitation Total is a measure of the mean current rain-rate within a shower or thunderstorm.

Base Velocity

The wind velocity within a thunderstorm. Product shows the unaltered raw velocity data (Level III NIDS) unaffected by mean motion vector of thunderstorm.
